Among all the 58 ‘Belli Hejje’ event held by Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy in association with Information Department – the one of Smt Lakshmi actress of over 650 films was very different and incredible. The two veteran journalists Jogi (Girish Rao) and Sadashiva Shenoy made the ‘Belli Hejje’ with touch of humor and it was not a formal style. The happiness, concern, appeal, delectable moments in life of veteran actress Lakshmi came up in over one and half an hour chit chat.

Prior to ‘Belli Hejje’ chit chat, photo exhibition and 25 minutes documentary prepared by Sadashiva Shenoy was screened at Gandhi Bhavan auditorium. SV Rajendra Singh Babu, NR Vishukumar information director, KFCC President Sa Ra Govindu, SK Bhagwan, SA Chinne Gowda, Protima Devi, Jai Jagadish, Vijayalakshmi Singh and others were present.

·        Kala Seve annodu ella Badanekaayi. It is for money I came to cinema. There was need. I wanted to collect Rs.3000 for diamond studs. So I accepted Goadalli CID 999 in 1967, I accepted another film as they promised to give Rs.2500.

·        I did plays in schools of Satyavan Savithri. I was told to learn Veena. Teacher use to come home but I was getting stomach ache when he used to arrive. That was ‘Drama Bazi’

·        I get ‘Dhyana’ at the time of preparation of food and while eating. I cannot control hunger. I scream at that time. I don’t believe in Upavasa.

·        You cannot sit alert for two hours plus anywhere. When you come to theatre you do that. That is the magic of cinema.

·        I was also single child and child labor in the family. I grew up in the days of asking for two drops of ink to the pen.

·        I did not know swimming and jumped to a shoot in pool because they may not select me.

·        After so many years I feel Dr Rajakumar is the one who has come from Planet for a few years and gone. He is such a gem. He does not get angry at all. Dr Vishnu and Ambarish are with full of humor.

·        I adore Shivaji sir for his acting. I used to ape him in my capacity in the early days.

·        Any actress in life has wish of acting in one Malayalam film. It is such a feel at home atmosphere. Even today there is no Caravan. All are one in only that film industry.

·        After ‘Julie’ I did not make up mind to go to Hindi industry! I cannot survive with chapathis. They are not straight forward.

·        It is only South people are straight and frank.

·        You care for your parents before it is too late. Just tell them I love you.

·        I remember the funeral day of my mother nine years ago. I came up with ‘Dharbe’ and everyone was astonished. I told the priests that I would do all final rites formalities. Finally my paternal uncle came up to do rites.

·        I was holding the legs of my mother and telling ‘Please Excuse me for my mistakes’ weeping.

·        Every human being is an actor. Male are more gossip mongers. Women are having plenty of work to do. 33 percent reservation is not enough.

·        I adore former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. A lady with such an agile style and intelligence.

·        I made an entry to politics and came back. When I go to any party, it gets dissolved from my statements.

·        I was taught Kannada by director HR Bhargava, when he told me that I should know to write. In one day I showed writing Kannada.

·        Andhra Pradesh is my birth place, Tamil Nadu is my living place and Karnataka is the one that has given me food.

·        Humanity is most essential factor in life. I don’t believe in genes, Levis etc. It is hard work and sincere attempt that carries you long.

·        We learn from directors. They are real captain of ship. Producer is undoubtedly ‘Annadhaata’.

·        I do home work for every role I take up. That is the respect I offer to this profession.
